What is Primal Therapy?
(And What it is NOT!)

Primal Theory is Grounded in Neurobiology

Over the years, Primal Therapy has evolved from much simpler origins, into a highly sophisticated theory of psychotherapy and psychopathology which heavily correlates to today's rapidly emerging and cutting edge research on the brain, psychophysiology, and the neurosciences.  Primal Therapy provides both the theoretical foundation and practical technical application necessary for true healing and integration to occur.  It is one of only a handful of modern psychotherapies that truly addresses and works with all three major areas of the brain and nervous system--1) cognitive (neocortex), 2) emotional (limbic system), and 3) physical/survival sensations (reptilian brain).

Thus, by utilizing and accessing all three levels of "the mind" in the treatment process, clients can integrate previously unresolved feelings and issues on unprecedented emotional, physical, and cognitive levels.  This is precisely why standard talk therapies or conventional psychotherapy can only go so far.  Words alone, even when these are combined with occasional emotions, are simply not enough to be effective with many clients.

Furthermore, during treatment, Primal Therapy accesses feeling states and traumatic memories, which according to the latest research, reside primarily in the right hemisphere of the brain.  This access is crucial to the therapeutic process as it allows for the lateral transfer of information from the right to left hemisphere of the brain for conscious connection and integration.  It is this unique capacity to access right brain "material" that also sets Primal Therapy apart from most other psychotherapies today.  It is another significant reason why this form of therapy is particularly effective with deep-seated anxiety, depression, or trauma which conventional counseling may have had limited success in treating.
